The kids are officially out of school, which means summer break is in full swing! I absolutely loooove summer. Summer (to me) means sleeping in, easy mornings with no agenda… days filled up with neighborhood pool fun, popsicles at all times of the day, chalk art, bubbles, 7/11 slurpees… etc. For weeks I have been dreaming about all the summer fun the kids and I will have.
Well, we have had two full weeks of summer, and reality has set in… I have a 20 month old boy! Easy summer days are non-existent! Summer fun has to be scheduled around carefully curated nap-times. When we actually do make it to the pool, I am in a constant state of panic trying to watch Violet as she jumps off the high dive, Livia going down the water slide, and Kace grabbing random strangers drinks, ready to chug! If I don’t intervene, with ninja-like motions, he will inevitably end up chugging some (other) mom’s rosé!
I have tried getting him in the baby pool… not happening! Baby pools are for suckers! Kace would much rather ravage through somebody’s pool bag… throw an unsuspecting stranger’s shoes in the deep end… get a hold of somebody else’s sunscreen and launch it into the pool. Actually, now that I am thinking about it, he pretty much only wants to torment every single person at the neighborhood pool, by rummaging through their things, and launching them into the water. If I pull him away from his set intention.. all hell breaks loose. He makes noises only prehistoric birds can make.
Any tips on how to tame the pool monster, that is Kace, are MUCH appreciated….
Before summer actually started, I gathered essentials that I felt I would need for a summer full of pool fun! There is no reason I shouldn’t share with y’all, in case your 20-month olds (or lack there of) cooperate ;-).
You must have a great pool bag! I have a few options… I have some cute totes that are fun for a day with just girlfriends at the pool, and then I have some bags that are “catch-alls” for all the towels, dive-toys, goggles, mermaid-fins, snacks, water bottles etc.!!! (#momlife). Of course, you can always take those cute totes and shove all of the real-life mom-stuff in it (I do it often)…
HAVE to have a great pair of sunnies! Here are a few fun affordable pairs that I love ( all under $15.00)!
If you are trying to preserve that baby-face of yours, you need a great hat! Hats can also function as a disguise when your child is behaving like a monster 🙂
Cute cover-ups, that you can NOT live without 🙂
If you have kids, you need pool toys! I suggest checking out Target (pronounced, the fancy way… “Tar-jayyyy”), or Walmart’s water toy isles. You can always find great dive toys, water-friendly balls, buckets, mermaid barbies, etc.
Last, but not least, my random favs! I love this Sunbum leave-in conditioner spray for hair. My neighbor told me about it last summer, and I’m obsessed. I feel like it helps fight against the nasty things chlorine does to hair! Also, loving the Target suncreen, Sunbum suncreen, baby organic face-stick, and water bottles 🙂
** Important things that are not listed: A fun girlfriend to go to the pool with you for moral support. They must be able to wrestle alligators! Lots of caffeine, to keep your energy levels up and ready to chase a monster for at least a few hours (or however long your sanity can hold up). Also, don’t forget SNACKS! The only thing that might give you a moment of stillness… and if the baby doesn’t want them.. you can stress eat 0:-).
Spring is in full swing… (if only Mother Nature got that memo). There are so many fun new trends to work into your wardrobe once the weather starts cooperating. I’ve narrowed down my top 5 favorite staple pieces to feel fun and trendy for sunny days!!
A circle bag (or at least thats what I call it)! These adorable handbags are everywhere you turn, and you can find them for great prices! Here are my favs:
A great graphic tee! I am digging all the rock tees! A fun way to show your love of music, and look cute and edgy while doing so! Random fact: Jim Morrison from The Doors is my 3rd cousin.. maybe why I love them so much?
A comfy pair of slides! Slides are such a great way to have a little fun with print and color, or kick it old school with the adidas look!
A good denim skirt. Dress it up with an off-the shoulder top and wedges, or throw it on with a rock tee and sneaks.. either way you get that trendy feel! All 4 of these skirts are under $60!!
Last but definitely not least… a fun pair of sunnies! Why take yourself too seriously? Have a little fun with shape and color! (All under $20)
It’s Easter time!!!! The birds are chirping in the mornings, flowers are blooming (at least it is for some of us. For those of you still experiencing snow… move to Texas! We gotcha covered). This also means it’s time to have a little Easter basket fun! I like to consider myself a personal shopper for the Easter Bunny. I mean, the bunny can’t do it all alone…
I got the chance to collaborate with the insanely talented, and creative, @anekdot_creative to share with you some of the cute things I picked out for the bunny to give my kids.. and to bring a little Easter Magic to each of you:
When shopping for the bunny.. I like to find a few things to get the kids outside and playing. For me, that alllllways means chalk and bubbles! As long as we have chalk and bubbles in the house.. we have instant fun! I mean, my kids may be writing “Violet is a poopy butt” all over the fence.. but hey, they’re having fun while they do it 😉 . This year I spiced it up a bit and added hula hoops and a Tee-ball set for Kace!
For the girls, I made a little stop into Justice. They have some adorable little accessories that every girls needs…. such as, mermaid face mask (they need to start refining their pores early), unicorn bathbomb, and killer pairs of sunnies!
While shopping for Easter candy, I learned a very important lesson: never shop for Easter candy while hungry! You will end up with 45 bags of peanut m&ms. I also noticed a peanut butter trend. Every single bag of candy I got is either reese’s related, or is filled with peanut butter, or has peanuts in it. I have a problem. I also included a kinder surprise egg. When we were living in France, hey had Kinder eggs in basically every store and the kids were absolutely obsessed with them. I haven’t ever seen them in the U.S., so when I saw them in Target I almost squealed with excitement. Next, you haaaave to have a chocolate bunny (the Easter bunny likes to remind the kids who’s number 1). Last, but not least, a peeps bunny on a stick…because you can’t have an easter basket without a sugar-covered bunny shaped marshmallow. Duh.
Now when the big day comes, I intend on sending the kids on a scavenger hunt to find their baskets ( that the “bunny” will cleverly hide in a closet somewhere). They need to learn that everything in life doesn’t come easy.. that includes Easter baskets 😉 . Happy Easter!!!!
